BGD Youth Power Action Integrated Workforce Development and Sexual and Reproductive Health-2018

Narrative Description of Project:   As a response to the youth underemployment phenomenon in Bangladesh, Save the Children is implementing the Skills to Succeed program. This program will provide training for 12,000 vulnerable out-of-school youth aged 16-24 years old who have completed at least Junior Secondary Education (grade 8) living in the urban slums of Dhaka and working in a hazardous conditions in the informal sector. While 60% of the target is males and 40% female, the project will put a particular focus on linking female youth to the information technology and business process outsourcing sectors as female youth are typically hindered from economic participation by gender discrimination and social and cultural barriers.

The Skills to Succeed (S2S) program is investigating the benefits of integrating a sexual reproductive health (SRH) component into the program as means to deliver dual health and economic benefits to deprived youth participating in the program. For this purpose, the program will conduct an experimental research study involving 2,700 program participants only 3rd and 4thcohort from the S2S cohorts plan. Study participants will be selected through randomized assignment to receive the regular Skills to Succeed program or the Skills to Succeed and SRH integrated intervention.
