Follow-up to the National Arsenic and Water Usage Survey (2002)

The specific aims of this survey were to:

  • validate the prevalence of dermatological manifestation of chronic arsenicosis determined by the Bangladesh National Arsenic and Water Usage Survey
  • assess associations between dermatological evidence of chronic arsenicosis and arsenic concentrations in drinking water and
  • asses associations between dermatological evidence of chronic arsenicosis and water usage, knowledge and awareness of arsenic contamination, socio-demographic and other factors

The follow-up survey was implemented by re-surveying a sub-sample of households from the 2000 National Arsenic and Water Usage Survey having a person or persons with skin lesion or rash, and another sub-sample of the households not reporting a person with skin lesions.

The survey was commissioned by the Australian National University and funded by the Aus-AID.
