Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS, 1999-2000)

The objectives of this survey project were to collect relevant data to evaluate family planning and health programs and to further assess the demographic situation in Bangladesh. The survey project was also intended to support dissemination and utilization of the results in planning and managing the health and family planning programs in Bangladesh.

 

The sample size was about 12,200 respondents including 10,000 female and 2,200 male respondents. This was a national survey, with its sample spread over 350 sample sites across the country. The sponsor of the survey was the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Bangladesh. The financial support was provided by USAID Dhaka office and the technical assistance by Macro International, USA. The processing of the data collected in the survey was also done by Mitra and Associates.
